Cholatse Expedition

25 Days 24 Nights

Cholatse Peak is linked to Taboche Peak by a long, striking ridge. The ascent follows snow-covered slopes leading to a technical rock section, which marks the crux of the climb. Beyond this challenge, climbers are rewarded with a steep, dramatic ridgeline that eventually levels out onto the summit dome.

Just east of the pass lies a serene lake, giving the peak its name: in Tibetan, “Cho” means lake, “La” means pass, and “Tse” means peak — together, Cholatse translates to “Lake Pass Peak.” The main draw of Cholatse is its breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan giants.

Before attempting Cholatse’s demanding alpine-style climb, climbers typically traverse the Cho La Pass (5,420 m) to acclimatize. Cholatse is considered one of the most difficult peaks to climb in Nepal, with very few commercial expeditions attempting it and only a handful of successful ascents along any route to the summit.
