The Manaslu Expedition takes you to the 8th highest peak in the world, Mount Manaslu, which rises to 8,163 meters (26,781 feet) above sea level. Nestled in the Mansiri Himal of Nepal’s Gorkha District, Manaslu is often called the “Mountain of the Spirit” and is known as Mt. Kutung in Tibet. It lies approximately 64 km east of Mount Annapurna. The first successful ascent was made by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu on May 9, 1956. Despite several earlier attempts, Manaslu was officially opened to climbers only in 1991. Since H.W. Tilman’s pioneering expedition, the region has attracted experienced trekkers, though access remains limited to well-prepared groups due to its remote and isolated nature, making rescues particularly challenging.
Climbing Manaslu is considered more technical than peaks such as Cho Oyu and Shishapangma. The base camp sits at 4,700 meters, and the mountain’s long ridges provide multiple routes to the summit. Of the six established routes, the southern approach is the most demanding, while the northeast face is the most frequently used. Every year, Seven Summit Treks organizes a series of expeditions, helping climbers achieve the summit safely while navigating the mountain’s extreme challenges.

Overview
Manaslu Expedition, at 8,163 meters (26,781 feet), is the eighth-highest mountain in the world and one of the esteemed “8000ers”—the fourteen peaks that rise above 8,000 meters.
Situated in Nepal’s Gorkha District, Manaslu is part of the Mansiri Himal range. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word “Manasa,” meaning “intellect” or “soul,” reflecting the mountain’s spiritual and majestic aura.
The first successful ascent was achieved on May 9, 1956, by the Japanese climber Toshio Imanishi and Sherpa Gyalzen Norbu. Today, Mount Manaslu attracts mountaineers seeking a challenging yet less crowded alternative to Everest, offering an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Himalayas.
