Permits for Treks and Expeditions in Nepal.
Trekking and mountaineering in Nepal require official permits to ensure your safety, protect the environment, and comply with government regulations. At Everest Horizon Trek, we handle all permit arrangements on your behalf, so you can enjoy a smooth, worry-free, and fully legal adventure.
Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card
The TIMS Card is mandatory for all foreign trekkers and helps authorities track trekking routes for safety purposes.
Solo trekking without a licensed guide is not permitted as per government regulations (effective April 2023).
TIMS Cards must be issued through a registered trekking agency, such as Everest Horizon Trek.
National Park & Conservation Area Permits
Required for trekking in protected regions such as Sagarmatha (Everest), Annapurna, Langtang, Manaslu, and other conservation areas.
Permit fees support wildlife protection, forest conservation, and local community development.
Trekkers must carry their permits at all times, as trail checks are conducted regularly.
Restricted Area Permits (RAP)
Special permits are required for remote and restricted regions like Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo, and Manaslu.
Trekking in these areas must be done with a licensed guide and, in most cases, a minimum group size is required.
Permit fees vary depending on the region and duration of stay.
Expedition & Peak Climbing Permits
Any peak climbing or expedition requires official permits:
Peaks above 7,000 meters: Permits issued by the Department of Tourism
Peaks below 7,000 meters: Permits issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA)
Permit fees depend on the peak, season, and height.
Garbage Deposit & Environmental Regulations
All climbing expeditions must submit a refundable garbage deposit to ensure proper waste management.
Climbers on Mount Everest must bring down at least 8 kg of solid waste per person as part of environmental protection rules.
These regulations help preserve Nepal’s fragile mountain ecosystems for future generations.
How We Arrange Your Permits
Everest Horizon Trek manages all required permits before your trek or expedition. Required documents include:
A valid passport
Two passport-size photographs
A confirmed trekking or expedition itinerary

Once issued, we ensure that all permits are ready before your departure. Trekkers must carry their permits throughout the journey.
